If you type weight loss on any search page, you will be overwhelmed by the amount of result that come back producing quick ways to lose masses of weight with little or no effort.
I can tell you from my own experience, that all though some of these products may jumpstart a weight loss program, they are indeed a short term fix.
The most effective way to start any program is to plan it, actually mark it on your calendar and have a plan for eating well and changing your routine to include more exercises. It does not have to be drastic and don't beat yourself up if you don't see anything immediate. Any change as long as it is consistent and in a direction to your goal is a good one.
If you go into eating raw foods because you want to lose weight, you can definitely achieve those goals. But if you think you can eat raw for a few weeks, drop a few sizes, and then go back to "normal living", you might as well stop right now.
Diets don't work because people don't see them as lifestyle changes, they see them as quick fixes. So once the diet session is over, they go back to old destructive habits, and gain back all the weight they lost, and lose all the benefits of their quick trip to Healthyland. Now, no one is saying that in order to lose weight and keep it off, you need to eat nothing but raw foods for the rest of your life.
